Paying for a VPS in Bitcoin
Bitcoin is the most widely held crypto rail, so it is the one many people reach for first when they want a server without a card or a bank in the loop. We support it — but we support it honestly, which means being clear about both how the payment works and what it does and doesn’t hide.
We accept on-chain BTC, and payments are processed by OxaPay, a payment processor. You pay in Bitcoin; OxaPay handles the on-chain side and shows you a fresh receive address, the exact amount, and a QR code for every order. We ask for no email and run no KYC on our side — ordering only returns a 32-character ID. Self-hosting the checkout with BTCPay Server and native Monero — removing the intermediary — is on our roadmap.
How the Bitcoin checkout works
- Choose a plan. No account is required. You can create a pseudonymous one afterwards if you want a dashboard and tickets.
- Get your order ID. Checkout returns a 32-character random token. That token is your handle on the order — save it. An email is optional; a disposable address is fine and never required.
- Pay the invoice. OxaPay shows a unique BTC address, the exact amount, and a
QR code, with a live rate lock so you know precisely what to send. The
.onioncheckout works without JavaScript. - Get provisioned. When the payment reaches the required confirmations, the webhook triggers provisioning and the server comes online. You watch the confirmation count from the panel over Tor or clearnet.
Save your 32-character order ID somewhere safe. Because we hold no email or name by default, that token is how you — and only you — prove the order is yours.
Confirmations and fees
On-chain Bitcoin is not instant. A transaction has to be mined into a block and then buried under a few more before it is safe to treat as final. We provision after the standard number of confirmations for the order value — smaller orders release sooner, larger ones wait for more depth. The panel shows the live count so you are never guessing.
Fees are set by network demand, not by us. When the mempool is congested, an on-chain payment can cost more and take longer to confirm. If you are paying with BTC directly, set a sensible fee in your wallet: too low and the transaction can sit unconfirmed for hours. For most VPS orders — which are small relative to the fee — there is a better option below.
Lightning: cheaper and near-instant
For the size of a typical server order, the Lightning Network is usually the right rail. Lightning settles in seconds for a tiny fraction of an on-chain fee, and OxaPay serves Lightning invoices through the same checkout. What a Bitcoin payment does and doesn’t hide
This is the part other hosts gloss over, so we will be blunt. Bitcoin’s ledger is public and permanent. Every transaction — amounts, addresses, and the links between them — is visible to anyone forever. That is the opposite of Monero, where amounts, senders and recipients are hidden on-chain by default.
Concretely: if you bought your BTC from a KYC exchange and sent it straight to our invoice, a determined analyst could follow the chain from that identity-linked withdrawal to our address. We do not ask who you are, and we do not need to — but the blockchain itself is transparent, and no promise from us changes that.
You can reduce this exposure, and the choices are yours, not ours:
- Coin-control. Choose which UTXOs fund the payment so you are not merging coins you would rather keep separate.
- A gap between exchange and payment. Don’t pay our invoice with a fresh KYC-exchange withdrawal if you care about linkage.
- Mixing / CoinJoin. Some users run coins through a CoinJoin first. That is entirely your decision; we neither require nor discourage it, and we take no position on your coin history beyond our Acceptable Use Policy.
When to use Bitcoin — and when not to
Use on-chain BTC when it is simply the coin you hold and you are comfortable with its public nature. Use Lightning when you want the same rail but cheaper and faster. And if payment privacy is your actual goal, pay in Monero — it is our first-class, recommended coin precisely because it hides on-chain what Bitcoin exposes.
Whichever coin you choose, the rest of the setup is identical: no email needed, a
32-character order ID, a .onion panel, and a versioned no-logs policy.
We are a privacy host with a real AUP and an abuse desk, not a
bulletproof host — the coin you pay with never changes what you are allowed to
run.
